“People make the difference, each with their own unique talent and passion.” Driven by a firm belief in this mission statement, USG People helps its clients find the most highly qualified staff – people whose adaptability and experience enables companies to effectively respond to changing market needs. As one of Europe’s largest HR services providers, USG People sends around 100,000 people out on assignments at companies and organisations across Europe every day. It is divided into four international operating companies: the star brands Start People, Unique, Secretary Plus and USG Professionals.
A company’s pride in its new front-office application
“Up to a few years ago, these four star brands all used their own front-office applications. These applications existed alongside each other and had to be maintained and updated separately,” says Luc Buntinx, Demand & Delivery Manager at USG People Belgium. As part of the IT team within the company’s Shared Service Centre – which provides both shared and specific services to the star brands – he is responsible for ensuring that IT applications meet the business needs defined. “There was a growing desire to integrate these various applications. We had our work cut out for us: we had to make an inventory of requirements and come up with a development strategy based on the Scrum approach. We also had to establish a new, multilingual international team of internal and external consultants with a mix of IT and business skills. We could tell it was going to be a huge challenge for us: this was really about implementing a whole new approach, and we knew we needed all the external support from experts we could get.”
Luc found that support at Valori: “The initial meeting with Valori’s Peter Noordijk went extremely well. He understood exactly what theoretical problems we were facing and explained on the spot how these could be transformed into workable solutions. Peter took on the role of test manager at our company, soon began organising additional testing activities, and later also assumed other roles. This included consultancy services relating to Agile workflows, release management, and some project management: earlier this year we transferred the entire management of the migration of on-premise applications to cloud hosting. We knew it was going to be far from easy, especially given the timing – we were in the middle of preparing our biggest rollout to date – but Peter managed to pull it off.”
The project has since been successfully completed and the application is currently used at all the company’s Belgian sites. With the project organisation now being transformed into admin and management, the company will continue to rely on Valori’s support going forward. “Our partnership is defined by two key concepts: ‘trust’ and ‘growing together’. The trust is completely mutual, and, having been partners from the outset, we have made immense progress together. Peter is a competent professional – a man of many talents who’s an out-of-the-box thinker and is not afraid to step outside his comfort zone. And if he finds himself faced with uncharted territory that he doesn’t have all the expertise to be able to deal with, he has the rest of the Valori team and their impressive skill sets to fall back on.
“So it only makes sense for us to continue our partnership in the foreseeable future. Peter has since taken on two follow-up projects: the first of these is being carried out in a business-oriented context, involving the alignment of processes across the star brands. As part of the second project, we’re looking to gradually make our IT operations more agile. The first project was an unequivocal success and we’re all very proud of what we accomplished together. The next step for us is to start organising processes more efficiently and facilitating these changes. And we’re lucky to have our partner, Valori, support us every step of the way.”
